History Through FilmGrapes of Wrath is a commonly talked about book and film in reference to the dust bowl and the Great Depression, but many films were made about the time period. I Am A Fugitive From A Chain Gang, specifically focuses on Georgia and the corrupt court system. Back then in was a common practice for prisons to chain their prisoners together and make them do strenuous tasks. Georgia was the last state to stop doing this. When the movie came out it created doubt among the people when it came to the judicial system. Their was already mistrust in banks and corporation, so shedding light on the way the court system was mistreating prisoners only pushed citizens further away from the powers that be and closer to each other. The “American Dream” that once was, was being chipped away. People were no longer looking to the government for support. The 20’s were over and being a materialistic consumer was no longer the dream. Family and independence from the banks and government was the new dream.
